This 60 minute session covers how to share your database or a folder of references, how to turn your shared folder or database into an RSS feed, how to view, search, print and export references from a shared folder or database and how to access and view a shared folder or database from a central web page. Write-N-Cite III for Windows

This 30-minute session introduces the latest update (version 3) to the Write-N-Cite utility in RefWorks. In this brief session we will discuss what’s new in Write-N-Cite III, how to install it, and how to use it to insert citations and create bibliographies in your documents – including while working offline.  A federated search engine at Gill Library

It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of items in electronic collections.  With so many starting points for research, users can struggle to find the best source, and often bypass the library to search the Web. 

360 Search, a feature-rich federated search engine, enables users to search multiple resources simultaneously from a single and intuitive search box.  It is capable of searching the library’s entire e-resource collection at once.

Looking at federated search results often means sorting through thousands of citations to find the ones you need.  This can be a slow and frustrating experience.    Unlike Google results, for example, 360 Search results are presented in groups or clusters of browseable subject categories.  This eliminates information overload by providing a quick, intuitive path to citations that share common topics, dates, journals and authors.

Gill Library purchases per-search blocks from FirstSearch.  Every time a user enters a search into FirstSearch, this counts as a search.  If the user retrieves full text from a search result, 5 searches are deducted from our block.

Searching WorldCat.org does not count against our block of searches.  WorldCat.org is a free, open service provided by OCLC.  Following or clicking links that may appear below the record display however, (int he area that says: “Services from the College of New Rochelle for this item:”) will count as a search or block because it inititates a search into FirstSearch’s WorldCat version of the record.
